The Resultant Force Vector Technique (RFV)
A Dental Connection to Headaches, Chronic Pain, Neurologic, Visceral and Structural Problems
Philip S. Callahan, in the book, Exploring The Spectrum, talks about serendipity playing a powerful role in science. Serendipity is "the special gift of finding valuable or agreeable things not sought for. Serendipity comes about quite naturally, for the simple reason that the experimenter is usually manipulating some biological, chemical or pysical phenomenon when something happens that is unexpected and cannot be explained. An experimenter who is intellectually prepared recognizes the new phenomenon and redirects his experimental effort toward discovering its place in nature."
Unfortunately, scientists are trained to discourage taking advantage of serendipity because "very few are intellectually prepared to recognize it. Most scientists are trained as specialists and eventually arrive at a specialized way of thinking that directs their intellectual processes along defined lines. They have a predetermined fix on what the specialized literature says must be so and are not likely to change the direction of thinking."
Daniel R. Gole, DDS, a clinical practioner cultivated an intense interest in the relationship of teeth to the rest of the body, and developed the Resultant Force Vector Technique. He asked questions that didn't have answers yet, and explored allied health care professions resulting in a divergent growth pattern from the norm --- a paradigm shift.
Many unexpected relationships have been revealed between the teeth, muscles, temporomandibular joints, posture, and other systems in the body. Many new relationships are still unfolding which look very promising. Unrelated body parts and systems appear to function as a whole. Tooth anatomy, the occlusion (bite) and neural input from the brain stem, spine, Trigeminal and Autonomic Nervous System (ANS), and scars intimately relate to postural muscle tone throughout the body, which occurs in patterns from head to toe.
The patient to be examined frequently presents in a compensatory postural position (CCP). Any structural change from trauma, dentistry, surgery, wear and tear, and aging can adversely influence the interrelationships between the bones, joints and muscles. The RFV technique assesses the patient's structural integrity.
The RFV technique is fast, highly accurate and intimately relates the oral region to postural muscles, autonomics, and lymphatic function
